Marshall
M. Curtis is a principal in the firm. He received the degree of Bachelor
of Science in Electrical Engineering from Washington University, St. Louis,
Missouri, in 1968, with additional course work in Physics, Metallurgy,
Electrical Machinery, and Computer Design, and the Juris Doctor degree
from Catholic University in 1973. Mr. Curtis is a member of the Virginia
Bar and is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of Virginia,
the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court.
Mr. Curtis is also registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark
Office. Mr. Curtis was a Patent Examiner in the U.S. Patent and Trademark
Office from 1968 to 1988 where he examined patent applications in the
digital communications and visual display arts. He was an instructor in
the Patent Academy and lectured on the topic of software patentability.
Mr. Curtis held the rank of Senior Primary Examiner at the time he entered
private practice. He is a member of the American Intellectual Property
Law Association, the International Federation of Industrial Property Attorneys
(FICPI), U.S. Section, the Washington Foreign Law Society and is Chairman
of the Intellectual Property Law Section of the Virginia Bar Association.
In 2001, Mr. Curtis was honored by the Virginia Business Magazine as being
